Finding out that your child has autism spectrum disorder is not an easy matter to take in. You may be unsure of how to support your child or what to do next in general, making you more worried than ever. However, do note that there are several ways you can get help and support.
As a learning academy in Florida, we’ve listed some tips below:
- Consider early intervention services.
Early intervention can start as early as 2 years of age. Because a child’s brain is more changeable or “plastic”, the more effective treatments can be. Early intervention can give your child a better chance of developing their full potential as well. - Enroll them in special education.
Special education services are designed to address your child’s individual needs. Oftentimes, they are placed in small class sizes where they can receive more specialized instruction. - Be consistent.
A child with ASD may find it difficult to apply their learnings in one setting. If your child has a therapist, for example, find out what techniques these therapists are doing and continue to do so at home. Being consistent can help to reinforce learning.
